Affordable
Energy Coalition
Advocating for affordable and clean energy for every Virginian
2024 Legislative Session
Every year, the Affordable Energy Coalition advocates for legislation to alleviate the energy burden and create a fairer energy system in Virginia.
Alternative regulatory structures
Virginia's current regulatory structure incentivizes our electric utilities to spend as much money as possible at the expense of everyone who pays an electric bill. Regulators should investigate alternative regulatory tools to save money for customers and link utility profits to performance metrics that benefit everyone, like reliability, sustainability and customer service.
Affordable Community Solar
While shared solar programs save subscribers money in other states, Dominion’s existing program has a prohibitively expensive minimum bill – more than $55 / month. Such a high minimum bill undermines the program by making it inaccessible for many households. Additionally, Appalachian Power Company customers do not have access to a shared solar program.
Utility Shutoff Protections
Access to utilities is essential for the health and well-being of all Virginians. However, clean water and the ability to light, heat, and cool a home are not guaranteed for vulnerable and low-income households in Virginia during extreme weather and times of crisis.
